Current Work
Laurie provides training and technical assistance for teachers and adult education program administrators primarily in the areas of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Content Standards, ESOL curriculum, evidence-based reading instruction, and digital literacy. She creates and delivers online and hybrid professional development courses and training. She is a certified CASAS trainer..
Past Projects
Laurie served on the national team of the Student Achievement in Reading (STAR) federal initiative and has provided training on STAR and evidence-based reading instruction in Illinois as well as in other states. She is the co-author of Community Connections: Education for Involved Communities, an EL-Civics curriculum produced under a federal grant. She has developed and conducted online and in-person training on the curriculum and other civics content. As part of a federal research project funded by the National Institute for Health, Testing the Impact of Health Literacy, she co-wrote a multilevel health literacy curriculum and conducted statewide training on it.
Experience
Laurie holds a master’s degree in Linguistics/TESOL. She has worked in adult education for more than 30 years as a professional developer, ESOL and EBRI teacher, administrator, and volunteer tutor.
